This species can be compared to Select/Premium grade White Oak with the only difference being the way it is cut at the sawmill. Rift Sawn (Straight Grain) is achieved by a cut that is midway between plain and quarter sawn. This cut gives each piece a thin pencil-line or combed look, otherwise known as a straight grain look.
This grade is highly recommended when using a Natural/Clear Coat (no stain) to light stain color.
