Applied Moldings can be applied to doors in a variety of ways, allowing you to choose the level of customization for your project. When ordering Applied Molding Doors, please specify the placement of the molding to ensure your order is constructed to taste. Below are descriptions of various Standard Applications available for Applied Moldings.
Inside Edge Applied Molding Application Examples
Moldings applied to the Inside Edge of the Stiles & Rails have a rabbet cut allowing the outside portion of the molding to sit on the Face of the Stiles & Rails, while the inside portion sits on the center panel. The molding is attached to the Stiles & Rails rather than the Center Panel, so as the panel contracts and expands there is no stress placed on the molding.

Shelf Applied Molding Application Examples
Shelf Applied Moldings are utilized to create a unique profile design, where the placement of the molding creates an appearance being one with the outer edge of the Center Panel or inside Stile & Rail profile. Applying molding directly to a Center Panel increases any risk for the molding to detach itself during seasonal changes as the Center Panel expands, as well as creating a gap between the molding and frame when the panel contracts. To combat these problems, WalzCraft attaches custom-designed moldings to a small shelf on the Stiles & Rails. Shelf applied moldings are used in a variety of ways as explained below, each creating a distinctive look.
Basic Shelf Applied Molding Application Example

WalzCraft’s SR117, SR122, SR135, SR136 and SR138 Stile & Rail profiles are designed specifically to fit a variety of Shelf Applied Moldings, making it easy for you to enhance the design of the inside edge of your door.
Old World Shelf Applied Molding Application Example

Old World Stiles & Rails are 1” thick, giving a heavier feel to the door. Please note that some profiles not available in ¾” thick options.
SR133 Shelf Applied Molding Application Example

WalzCraft’s SR 133 Stile & Rail profile is a unique shelf profile with the face of the shelf being shorter than on the back side of the Stile & Rail. This construction allows compatibility between certain Shelf Applied Moldings and Center Panels that would otherwise be incompatible.
Shelf Applied Molding Application Example for Mitered Profiles

WalzCraft also offers Mitered profiles with a built in shelf designed to hold Applied Moldings. This adds further dimension to our already beautiful Mitered profile designs.
Face of Stile & Rail Applied Molding Application Examples
Applied Moldings can be set on the face of the Stile & Rail to add height & depth detail to an existing Stile & Rail profile at the face of a door. Face Applied Moldings are commonly used in conjunction with WalzCraft’s SR107 profile, and can be combined with most other Traditional Stile & Rail profiles as well.

Recessed Applied Molding (RAM Rout) Examples
A Recessed Applied Molding Rout is a recessed groove that is added to the face of a Mitered profile. Rope or Beaded Molding can then be recessed into the groove, with the additional option of adding Corner Blocks to transition the recessed molding to prevent mismatched profiles where corners meet. In this application, the molding will be flush with the face of the mitered Stiles & Rails. (RAM Routs are only available on Mitered and French Mitered Doors).

Rope Applied Molding Examples
Adding a Rope Applied Molding to your door design can help you create that one of a kind “look” your customers so often expect. WalzCraft offers both Half Round and Quartered Rope Applied Moldings in several sizes, giving you the option to make the rope a standout or subtle accent to a door. Embossed and Carved Beaded Applied Molding Examples

Corner Block Molding Examples

Corner Blocks also prevent mismatched profiles where 2 pieces of Rope or Beaded Molding meet together at a corner transition. Below are two examples of how Corner Blocks can be used with Rope Applied Molding. Click on the individual images to view full specifications for each design.
Applied Moldings for Curved (Radius) Doors
Several Applied Moldings are available on Curved Products. WalzCraft offers a variety of profiles and application options for both Convex & Concave Doors and Drawer Fronts. Throughout our product literature, a “C” indicates moldings that are available with Curved Products.
