MDF Cabinet Doors (1 & 5 Piece)
WalzCraft offers a variety of 5-Piece MDF, 1-Piece MDF, and 5-Piece Hybrid (Wood Stiles & Rails with an MDF Center Panel) Paint Grade Cabinet Doors are specifically designed for use in cabinets and other installations with a Painted, WalzCraft SolidTone or other opaque finishes. All MDF and Hybrid MDF cabinet doors and cabinet components are available ordered unfinished, Pre-Primed, or finished in one of our SolidTone (Paint) Colors.
Benefits of MDF Cabinet Doors Include:
- Like most Solid Wood Paint Grade Cabinet Doors, MDF Cabinet doors are reasonably priced.
- MDF resists natural expansion & contraction that sometimes occurs in solid wood doors from moisture and temperature changes within a natural environment. In painted cabinet doors with wood glued up center panels, this natural movement (expansion & contraction) has the potential to expose (faint to more pronounced) individual glue lines in the panel. In cabinet doors with wood glued up center panels that are finished with a Light to Medium Dark stain these lines are often unnoticeable or hidden in the wood grain and/or a mixture of colors in the wood and stain.
- Accept Painted Finish and primer.
- Painted finishes seal this type of door resulting in a very durable product.
- Suitable for many applications including; kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, custom built-ins, and even furniture creations.
WalzCraft offers 5-piece MDF cabinet door and drawer front styles in addition to an extensive collection of 1-piece MDF door/drawer front styles. An advantage of 5-piece MDF cabinet doors is that they are offered with same design flexibility, profile options (Stile/Rail, Center Panel, and Outside Edge) and finishes available in our 5-piece solid wood door styles. Additionally, a 5-Piece construction MDF doors produces true 90° joints and panels that are not possible with most 1-Piece MDF Cabinet Doors.
5-piece Frame and Panel MDF doors are manufactured at ¾” thickness and allow for further customization of specified Stile & Rail widths beyond our standard 2 ¼” frame. Frame only MDF doors are also offered, along with Mullion and Applied Molding door styles. (Mullion & Applied Molding parts are constructed of a solid wood-maple, hard/soft mixed grade of wood with MDF cabinet door construction).
Benefits of 5-piece MDF cabinet doors include a reasonable cost and acceptance of a paint finish (See WalzCraft’s SolidTone Prefinish Availability). An additional advantage of MDF cabinet doors is the resistance of natural expansion & contraction that sometimes occurs in solid wood doors from moisture and temperature changes within a natural environment. Painted finishes seal this type of door construction and provide a very durable product suitable for many applications including; kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, custom built-ins, and even furniture creations.
WalzCraft also continues to offer an assortment of 1-piece MDF construction door and drawer front styles. One-piece MDF doors/drawer fronts can be ordered in ¾” or 1” thicknesses and are precision-routed with a CNC machine to create the selection of profiles on the door style of choice. The number of passes the machine must complete to route the chosen profiles into the door/drawer front determines the square foot price, where more complex profiles require additional passes.
This type of door construction can be ordered raw (intended for a paint finish) or prefinished with one of WalzCraft’s SolidTone (Paint) Finishes. A variation of a 1-Piece MDF Cabinet Door are also used to produce 3d Laminate / RTF Cabinet Doors.
The maximum size of a raw MDF product is 48″ W x 96″ H. Please also note that when choosing an Applied Molding Outside Edge, the Applied Molding will be constructed of Maple-Hard / Soft-Mixed Paint Grade wood when applied to the edge of an MDF product.
As an additional alternative to solid wood and 5-piece MDF cabinet doors, WalzCraft also offers a “Hybrid Species” option constructed of solid wood Stile & Rail parts with an MDF Center Panel. Hybrid Species are a standard material (wood species) option for Mortise & Tenon, Mitered and French Mitered Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts. WalzCraft recommends this combination for painted doors because the MDF Center Panel expands and contracts less as moisture levels change in the air than solid wood.
Our Hybrid Species is available with your choice of Birch, Maple-Hard/Soft Mixed, or Poplar solid wood Paint Grade Stiles & Rails. If you are ordering Cabinet Doors and components Pre-Primed or finished with a SolidTone (Paint) finished by WalzCraft, we prefer / recommend customers use our “Maple-Hard/Soft Mixed” Hybrid Species.
