We have two main focuses when matching this grade. First, we focus on delivering as much birds-eye in the final product as humanly possible, and secondly, we focus on keeping color variation to a minimum.
This grade will have “noticeably fewer” birds-eyes than our Maple-Hard-Birds-Eye-Natural/Standard grade. Due to the lack of heartwood in this product, fewer birds-eyes are produced. This species can be compared to Maple-Hard-Select, but with a greater color variation due to carefully selecting sapwood with a variety of colors to achieve the birds-eye look.
We recommend a Natural/Clear Coat (no stain) when using this species so that the birds-eye doesn’t get masked over by the stain color. If a stain color is required, we highly recommend a light-colored “Spray No Wipe” stain process, not a Wiping stain process when using this species.
Please note that any product requiring a thickness greater than ¾” will consist of two or more laminated layers.
