This species can be compared to the select grade red oak with the only difference being the way it is cut at the sawmill. Rift Sawn (Straight Grain) is achieved by a cut that is midway between the plain and quarter sawn method. This cut gives each piece a thin pencil-line or combed look, otherwise known as a straight grain look.
Highly recommended when using a Natural/Clear Coat (no stain) to light stain color.
