Miscellaneous Joinery Options & Joint Assembly Methods

Miscellaneous Joinery Methods

Miscellaneous Joinery OptionsMiscellaneous Joinery Methods (MJ Options) allow you to specify a choice of joinery where your Face Frame Configurations come together at 45° Inside & Outside Corners, other angled transitions such as 22 1/2° and 45° Inside & Outside Corners, and at Edge to Edge & Edge to Face transitions. All of WalzCraft’s Miscellaneous Joinery Methods are available for Face Frame Products and include:

  • Miter Cuts
  • Dado Options
  • Rabbet Grooves
  • Tongue & Groove Joints

For Dado & Rabbet Joinery options, WalzCraft asks that you specify the width and depth of the required groove, allowing you to customize your components to suit any application. Joinery Options such as the Dado, Rabbet and Tongue & Groove styles, allow for Flush or Offset (scribe) Joints.

The Four Most Common Miscellaneous Joinery Options for Face Frames Include:

  • MJ3 (a 45° Miter Cut applied to each edge coming together at a 90° Outside Corner transition)
  • MJ4 (a 45° Miter Cut applied to each edge coming together at a 90° Inside Corner transition)
  • MJ10 (a Dado Groove applied to the back side of a Face Frame where width, depth & placement of the groove can be specified, creating a 90° Outside Corner transition)
  • MJ18 (a Dado Groove applied to the face/front side of a Face Frame where width, depth & placement of the groove can be specified, creating a 90° Inside Corner transition)

Joinery Options can also be applied to other Assembled products from WalzCraft including Doors, Drawer Fronts and Fluted Moldings. For any other Joinery Option style, please submit your request to our Friendly Customer Support Team for review.

Joint Assembly Methods

Hoffman Dovetail Joinery Method for Corner Face FramesWalzCraft offers various Joint Assembly Methods for joining two Face Frame Configurations together. The preferred method is WalzCraft’s Hoffman Dovetail Assembly Method (JAM1), wherever possible. Hoffman Dovetail notches are routed into the parts to be conjoined, using a Hoffman Dovetail routing machine. Glue is then applied to the mating surfaces and assembled together. Hoffman Dovetails Keys are then inserted and driven into the material with a hammer, resulting in a perfectly aligned joint locking the pieces together.View all Joint Assembly Methods

The benefit of the Hoffman Dovetail Assembly Method includes the elimination of the clamping process during production, as Hoffman Dovetail Keys are designed to provide the correct clamping pressure for proper glue joints. This Method of Assembly also requires no additional fasteners, reducing potential damage from improper placement of screws or nails during construction and installation. This method of Joint Assembly is applicable for joints anywhere ranging from 0° to 180°.

Other Joint Assembly Methods available include Domino Tenon, Dowel, Biscuit, Pocket Screw and Countersunk Screw Assemblies. Fasteners such as Dovetail Keys, Dowels, Screws, etc., will be shipped loose unless parts are Assembled by WalzCraft. Please visit our online catalog specifications for Joint Assembly Methods here or contact our Customer Support Team today for additional information.
